when the Dai smiles

If purity is born in someone else’s life

Then the sounds of innocence do not reach home

Nothing steals attention from the incomplete within

As slowly life parades and then we go

But interrupt the pattern and the threads of time

With an image of a life I’ve never known

Wrestle with the shadow I’ve been building all my life

Can I cut the cord? And I enjoy the show?

Quietly retreating into love a moment old

And holding on to hope that I’ll be near

Waiting in the colours of the last place I was pulled

I’m still at rest, but never quite at ease…

So listen for the question and the passion hid away

Peering ‘round the corner of the door

Losing my religion, failing into greater grace

As something so small tries to bring me home

When the Dai smiles

There’s a joke I should be in on

When the Dai laughs

You can bet that I’m the fool

When the Dai comes

Soft against my cheek

Will it be words or just a kiss?

I’m not worthy of this gift

But I become alive and I am more than I believed that I could be
